1st Hour Free Parking?

The idea is simple, the potential is huge.
For years, with a background of working in a town centre, owning my own business and previously serving as a Town Councillor seeing first hand the effects of parking charges, I’ve campaigned for measures to support our businesses! These have included supporting initiatives such as ‘Free after Three’ and pushing for ‘Free Parking Saturdays’ amongst others. Since becoming a District Councillor in 2021 I’ve supported the freezes to charges and have recently voted against this last inflation busting increase.
The benefits would be MASSIVE, less pollution from cars travelling further, increased accessibility, supporting existing businesses and encouraging new. It would directly generate trade for our local businesses and much more.
DDC are due to start their Parking Review Strategy in the Autumn and this petition is the perfect way to highlight what us, the residents and council tax payers want. The review can then assess what the impacts of any changes would be financially and Cabinet will ultimately decide.
Parking is an issue that should be about the right solutions to support our economy and residents.
